docs/MESHBAY_HTTP_API.md lists every route of the hub (by domain, with the
authentication each requires) and of the node's loopback control API. It is
written by docs/generate_http_api.py from the routes and their docstrings;
test_http_api_doc.py fails when the file drifts from the code or when a
route has no docstring, so a new route must say what it does.

79 routes had no docstring and get a one-line description; a few whose first
line did not describe the route get a summary line.

The login page's developer docs gain an API link next to Design and
Protocol, in every language. README, MESHBAY_DESIGN.md (§0.1, §6.7, §7) and
CLAUDE.md point to the listing; README also points to examples/.

The examples scripts with a shebang become executable.

<title>feat(protocol): MNP 4.0 flag day for the node-audience token (B2)</title>

The node-audience token (previous commit) is a change to what a peer must
present, so it is a MAJOR per the versioning rule (§5.6): a pre-4.0 client
presents its hub session token and a 4.0 node refuses it, and there is no
compatibility branch, because leaving one would keep a hub credential reachable
by every node (C6's lesson). So the floor moves with the version.

- MNP_VERSION 3.4 -&gt; 4.0 and MNP_MIN_SUPPORTED 3.0 -&gt; 4.0 (meshbay_common);
  transport.js MNP_V/MNP_V_MIN -&gt; 4.0 to match.
- MIN_CLIENT_VERSION 0.13.0 -&gt; 0.16.0 so a stale desktop client is told to
update before connecting rather than meeting a handshake refusal it cannot
read; the browser reloads this build from the hub.
- Regenerate tests/golden/dispatch.json: the only change is the `v` the node
  stamps on outbound messages, 3.4 -&gt; 4.0 (56 cases, v field only).
- Document the split and the flag day: MESHBAY_DESIGN.md §5.2 (the handshake
token is the MNP-audience token), §5.6 (the 4.0 flag day), register E10 and
  decision 23; MESHBAY_NODE_PROTOCOL.md §6.3 (authorize_token binds MNP_AUD)
  and the wire-version banner.

Deploy is coordinated and atomic (common+hub+node+SPA together); a live
browser-to-node validation and the deploy itself remain. common (173), node
(1489, the pre-existing test_cli_golden argparse/prog artifact aside) and hub
(1471) suites all green.

`ruff check .` had gone unrun long enough to report 568 errors, which is the
same as having no linter: the next real finding would have been invisible in the
noise. This is the 521 it fixes by itself, in 173 files, and nothing else — the
98 it cannot fix are the next commit.

What actually changed: import sorting (225), imports nobody used (87, none of
them a re-export — no `__init__.py` is touched, which was the one way this could
have broken an import elsewhere), `datetime.timezone.utc` to `datetime.UTC` (69)
and `asyncio.TimeoutError` to `TimeoutError` (18), both plain aliases on the 3.12
this project requires, `Optional[X]` to `X | None` (24), and f-strings with
nothing to interpolate (19).

Checked rather than assumed: every module in the three packages still imports,
and the suite is 2893 passed — the same count, test for test, as the merge
before it.

<title>feat(hub): session lifetime is an admin setting, and a browser signs out when idle</title>

Browser idle sign-out (media playback counts as activity; not the desktop app),
refresh idle window and maximum session length, in hours. Sign-out now revokes
on the hub, and the profile has "sign out everywhere".

<title>fix(hub): federation is closed until two hubs have run it</title>

Every MHP route answers a stated 503. `federation.FEDERATION_ENABLED` is the
only thing that decides it, applied as a dependency on the router so the six
routes that exist and any added later are covered by construction — a gate you
have to remember to write in each handler is the shape C6 is the standing
lesson about.

The protocol is not what is wrong with it. What is wrong is that nothing has
ever run it: two hubs have never completed one authenticated request between
them. AV14 was two defects in the same path — an issuer signing with a key
bound before it was loaded, naming itself after the reference deployment
whatever the instance was called, and a verifier naming no audience for the
`aud` the issuer sets, which PyJWT refuses outright. Both stood for a month
behind a green suite, and both were found by reading rather than by running,
because a second implementation of a peer proves the protocol and nothing about
two machines.

Four of the six routes carry no authentication of their own — the MHP token is
the authentication — and two of those write, a directory push and a revocation.
That is the surface being closed until somebody stands up a second hub.

A constant and not a `hub_settings` row, deliberately: a switch in the admin
panel invites an operator to turn on a feature that has never worked between
two machines, where this takes an edit, a deploy, and reading the comment above
it. `/v1/hub/info` reports the state, because the `mhp_version` beside it would
otherwise be a claim the hub does not honour.

The protocol tests open the gate for their own duration and say why; the one
that runs with the flag as it ships asserts all six routes refuse. §7.6 states
the closure, §15.2 carries federation between two hubs as not built.

<title>feat: MNP 3.0 — a transfer needs a lease</title>

Stage 4 of ~/next/improve-downloads.md, the flag day. Leases become compulsory
and a 2.x peer is refused at the handshake.

**The bound on leaseless reads (§3.4.1) did not exist, and it is what makes the
rest mean anything.** Browsing a group is never subject to a transfer slot —
that is an operator decision and a requirement: a member must be able to browse
a group at capacity exactly as they browse an idle one. But "not leased" cannot
mean "unbounded", or a client that simply omits `tr` transfers outside every cap
and the caps are decoration. A session may now read two distinct files at once
without a lease: one because a viewer looks at one file, two so that prefetching
the next photo stays possible. A count of files and not a byte budget, because a
RAW photo is 60-80 MB and is browsing while a 40 MB archive is a download, and
no size threshold separates them. Thumbnails, posters and cover art never reach
this check at all — they resolve out of the node's own cache.

It is a fairness control among cooperating clients, in the company of
`max_concurrent_streams`, and is not a defence against a member determined to
saturate a node's disk. That member is a member, and the answer to them is
`member revoke`.

**MNP_VERSION and MNP_MIN_SUPPORTED both move to 3.0**, on both sides. The
messages are additive; the requirement is not. An opt-in switch would leave a
leaseless branch reachable on every node, which is finding C6's lesson — a
transport that accepted a bare JWT — one feature later.

**The desktop client now checks before it connects.** The SPA is served by the
hub and picks up a new client on reload; the application ships its own
interface, so an un-updated one would sign in, list groups, and fail every
connection with `version_too_old` — a refusal in a protocol vocabulary with
nothing anyone can act on. It asks `/v1/hub/version` for `client.minimum` and
says so plainly instead. An unreachable hub is deliberately *not* "too old": a
captive portal or a closed laptop must not make starting the application
impossible.

**Every package is aligned on 0.13.0.** `meshbay-client/package.json` had
drifted to 1.0.0 while the Python packages were on 0.12.0 — invisible until
something compared those numbers, and then load-bearing: an installed client
announcing 1.0.0 sorts above a 0.13.0 minimum and walks through the gate meant
to stop it. That is stated in the code rather than left to be rediscovered; it
is acceptable exactly once, because the operator is updating every client, node
and hub by hand for this flag day. A new test fails if two packages ever
disagree again, and another fails if the hub would refuse the client the tree
builds.

Node suite 1209 passed, hub suite 861 passed.

captcha_site_key exposed via /v1/hub/info, useCaptcha() hook
in the SPA with stable DOM rendering (strength bar always present

<title>feat(hub): let a hub admin disable public groups instance-wide</title>

A new General tab in Administration carries one switch, allow_public_groups,
stored in a hub_settings key/value table (runtime-editable, unlike hub.toml).
Default is on; an absent row means on, so an upgrade changes nothing.

Enforcement is server-side on every hub-mediated path, not just the SPA:

  - create_group refuses visibility=public (403), staff included
  - list_public_groups the directory returns nothing (local + federated)
  - join_group open-joining a public group is refused
  - group_online_nodes a non-member of a public group is handed no node
  - signaling.webrtc_offer drops the "node hosts an open group" fallback
  - federation.export_directory advertises nothing to peer hubs

The switch is read live, so flipping it back restores every path. Existing
members of a group that predates the switch keep their membership row and
their access — this is plan A, not a purge. GET /v1/hub/info exposes the
flag (unauthenticated) so the create-group form and the sidebar's "Public
groups" link render correctly.

Also in the admin Groups tab: a Revoke action beside Suspend. Suspend is the
reversible hub flag; Revoke calls POST /v1/admin/revoke, which sets
status=revoked and broadcasts a signed revocation every node enforces
(denylist + dropped live sessions). It is confirm-guarded and names the group.

And a message fix the revoke work surfaced: group_online_nodes, join_group and
webrtc_offer answered "Group is suspended" for any non-active status. They now
report the real state, so a member of a revoked group is told "Group is
revoked" rather than something reversible-sounding.

Tests: test_public_groups_toggle.py (10) covers the switch end to end and the
five enforcement paths; test_revocation.py gains the status-message assertion.
