Most of these failed on Windows for reasons that had nothing to do with the
code under test, which is how real Windows defects hid among them:
- Read and write files as UTF-8, and talk to Node in UTF-8. read_text(),
write_text() and subprocess text=True use the locale codepage, cp1252 on
Windows: "é", "—" and "→" arrived as "?" or crashed, some sixty tests.
Calls to PowerShell and schtasks are left alone -- they answer in the
console codepage.
- Import ESM harness modules by file URL (as_uri): a raw "C:\..." path is not
a module specifier.
- test_cli_golden: mask the tmp path in its JSON-escaped form, spell it the
POSIX way, record on Linux, mask the protocol version (the recording had
failed everywhere since the MNP 4.0 bump) and argparse's version-dependent
quoting; point USERPROFILE at the tmp home, or `member invite` and
`operator pair` wrote their codes into the developer's profile.
- test_disk_io_off_loop: expect what a free loop can reach on the platform's
timer, 15.6 ms on Windows, not an assumed 5 ms.
- test_root_paths_are_operator_only: expect the OS's spelling of the path.
- test_audio_meta_cache: find ffprobe with shutil.which.
Node suite on Windows: 1489 passed, none failed. Hub suite: 3 failures left,
all older than this change (two SQLite concurrency tests, one transfer resume).

It was only the Node ID row's fallback, so it vanished the moment the node
announced itself — and was labelled Node ID when it did show. Own row, copy
button, and the profile's instructions no longer name the node dashboard
removed on 2026-09-01.
`.node-key` wraps: 44 base64 characters with no break opportunity pushed a
412px document to 417px, which unpins every sticky element on the page. The
width probe now measures the Overview table with a real key in it.

`.node-page` carried `max-width: 700px` of its own while Settings, Profile
and the create-group wizard take `.main`'s. The audit tab is a six-column
table — timestamp, event, user, IP, group, detail — with every fixed-shape
column set `white-space: nowrap` so an IP is never clipped, so at 700px it
scrolled sideways inside `.node-table-scroll` with a couple of hundred pixels
of `.main` empty beside it. Measured at 1024: 596px of table box where the
page had 856px to give.
The rule goes; the class stays as the anchor for the assertions.
`.node-group` and `.settings-section` are already the same rule twice over
(same background, border, radius, padding), so the two pages now line up card
for card.
test_node_page_width_measured.py: the Node page and a Settings page are the
same width at every width from 320 up, their cards the same rectangle, the
audit table no longer wider than its scroller at 1024, and — the narrow case
being the design rather than a regression — the table still scrolling inside
its own box on a phone without pushing the document sideways.
